The Hannon Law Firm has a special interest in protecting those who have been exposed to lead and serves as co-counsel in representing individuals whose properties are damaged by air and soil contamination from the Doe Run Smelter in Herculaneum, MO. The firm worked through a 19-year property damage class action battle for a lead-contaminated community which survived four appeals. Originally filed as Dixon v. Fluor and Doe Run in 1995, and refiled as Doyle, et al v. Fluor, et al in 2001, the case resulted in a $55 million settlement and the closure of the last primary lead smelter in the United States.

In 2014, The Hannon Firm received the “Case of the Year” award from the CTLA, along with Gray Ritter & Graham, P.C. of St. Louis.

In 1998, the Firm won a $1.8 million jury verdict on behalf of an owner of an industrial property located next to the Leyden Underground Natural Gas Storage Facility located in Jefferson County operated by Public Service Company. As a result of the publicity surrounding this case, Public Service admitted to leaks it had not previously disclosed, agreed to drop the operating pressure of the facility to reduce the migration of gas, and eventually decommissioned the dangerous facility.

In 2000, The Hannon Firm received the “Case of the Year” award from the CTLA, which recognized a unique struggle and contribution to the law.

The Hannon Law Firm served as trial counsel in this case, which had one of the largest verdicts in Colorado in an environmental damages case at the time of the verdict. The firm represented the Denver community of Globeville, resulting in a judgement for $28.1 million. Kevin Hannon and his co-counsel received the 1993 “Trial Lawyer of the Year” award for service in the public interest.
